"Does your child wear glasses, too?" In the new semester, this question has become a greeting for many parents to meet. For parents whose children are already nearsighted, such greetings are common but there is also a touch of sadness. The eye health problem is related to the child's future career and the quality of life. In this regard, the Ren Min Zheng Xie Bao recently interviewed Dr. He Wei, president of He Eye Specialist Hospital .

According to Dr. He Wei, the eye health problem of Chinese people is particularly serious; especially the visual impairment of children and adolescents has become a major public health problem in our country. Eye health problems can no longer be ignored.

The prevalence rate of myopia among adolescents in China ranks first in the world.

According to a survey of the World Health Organization in 2017, there are as many as 600 million myopia patients in China, of which the juvenile myopia rate is about 70%, ranking first in the world.

In order to effectively strengthen the prevention and control of myopia among children and adolescents in the new era, eight departments, including the Ministry of Education and the National Health Commission, have recently jointly issued the "Comprehensive Implementation Plan for the Prevention and Control of Myopia among Children and Adolescents."

This paper puts forward the goal of controlling the myopia rate of 6-year-old children in China at about 3% by 2030.

The implementation plan proposes that by 2023, the overall myopia rate of children and adolescents in China will be reduced by more than 0.5 percentage points per year on the basis of 2018, while that in provinces with high incidence of myopia will be reduced by more than 1 percentage point per year.

The plan also points out that by 2030, the rate of new myopia cases among children and adolescents will significantly decline, the overall level of visual health will be significantly improved, the rate of myopia in 6-year-old children will be controlled at about 3 percent, and the rate of myopia in primary school students will be reduced to less than 38 percent.

The myopia rate of junior high school students decreased to less than 60%, and that of senior high school students decreased to less than 70%.

As a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Dr. He Wei, president of He Eye Specialist Hospital , was the first to advocate myopia prevention and control and medical optometry, and has reported a number of proposals concerning teenagers' eye health in the CPPCC National Committee proposal.

Professor, chief physician, doctoral supervisor.

"The more important impact of the eye health crisis is that it will add medical costs to ordinary people and affect the ability to work and the quality of life of Chinese people," he said.

The prevalence rate of myopia among children and adolescents is high and has been rising, which will reduce the quality of the population and the health of the people in the future.

The best way to prevent myopia is to use eyes scientifically.

There are many factors that cause myopia among children and adolescents, and eating habits, eye habits and heredity are all important factors.

In Dr. He Wei's view, in order to truly achieve "prevention first" and "combination of prevention and treatment" in the eye health problems of children and adolescents, it is necessary for children and adolescents to develop and maintain healthy habits of using eyes.

Nowadays, children have done a lot more homework, and great changes have taken place in the way of homework and leisure and entertainment, which have greatly increased the time and intensity of using their eyes at close range. "If your eyes don't get a timely rest for a long time, the muscles in your eyes will be tense for a long time, and over time it will cause myopia. And the younger you are, the less time you should continue to use your eyes. " He Wei introduced.

He Wei also said: "gene is also one of the factors that cause myopia among children and adolescents. In general, the genetic factor can increase the probability of serious myopia above 600 lens power." Early intervention to control myopia is also an important method to prevent myopia among children and adolescents.

Prevention and control of myopia requires a systematic national system.

"Because of the large number of myopic patients in China, we need a systematic national system to prevent and control myopia. In particular, it is necessary not only to make the knowledge of eye health science be learnt on the ground, so that it become a guidance for children and adolescents to actually use eye properly, but also to detect and intervene as soon as possible. " Dr. He Wei suggested.

For myopic patients, will intervention work? Dr. He Wei suggested that everyone with myopia should undergo a systematic medical evaluation and choose what is suitable for them from a variety of types of glasses, such as frame glasses, contact lenses, and so on.

In addition, laser surgery to correct myopia, is not suitable for everyone. "We suggest that patients who choose corrective surgery for myopia should be at least 18 years old, with stable lens power within two years, and subject to rigorous screening and evaluation before surgery. The operation only solves the problem of wearing glasses. For surgical patients with high myopia, they still need to check the fundus regularly after operation in order to prevent the occurrence of complications of myopia. " Dr. He Wei reminded.
