Introduction to the Department:

Department of Low Vision of Shenyang He Eye Specialist Hospital is one of the early ophthalmic departments to develop low vision work in Northeast China. In 2004, it became the Low Vision Typoscope Optometry Center in Liaoning designated by China Disabled Persons Federation. In 2008, Christoffel Blinden Mission International (CBM) work together with He Eye Specialist Hospital to establish a Low Vision Center. In 2009, it was awarded with CIAIERKANG Base by the Working Committee for the Disabled of Shenyang Municipal Government to take charge of low vision rehabilitation of children.

Department of Low Vision of Shenyang He Eye Specialist Hospital features a comprehensive and systematic examination and diagnosis, as well as low vision and visual sense rehabilitation training programs, including visual function training, optometry of typoscope, training and guidance of using typoscope, and giving professional advice on improvement of life quality, study and working environment.

Indications:

Low vision in children caused by retinopathy of prematurity, congenital cataract, nystagmus, albinism, congenital microphthalmia and hereditary optic atrophy; low vision in adults caused by retinitis pigmentosa, hereditary macular degeneration, pathologic myopia and optic atrophy; low vision in the elderly caused by age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and advanced glaucoma.

What is low vision?

Many children with low vision have to go to blind schools to learn Braille because they cannot read books and blackboards. Many adults and elderly with low vision cannot live independently and need family care at any time, which seriously affects the quality of life.
